Yesterday, Wednesday, all those involved in the "Crash Course NRW" road accident project were honored on the initiative of the Ministry of the Interior. In a video message, the Minister of the Interior of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Herbert Reul, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the many years of commitment to the project. The head of the Coesfeld district police department, Thomas Eder, gladly agreed and presented certificates and gifts on behalf of the Minister of the Interior. "Your authentic reports have moved us. You are making an outstanding contribution to improving road safety in the district of Coesfeld," said Thomas Eder, thanking the speakers.
"Crash Kurs NRW" has now been running for 14 years as a project to increase road safety and reduce the number of accidents, particularly among young adults. The Coesfeld district police authority has been involved from the very beginning.
"Crash Kurs NRW" appeals to the responsibility of young drivers and is therefore aimed at high school students and vocational schools.
In the two-hour event, actors from the police, fire department, rescue service, emergency pastoral care and the family and school environment of accident victims report impressively on their very personal experiences and emotions, accompanied by pictures of real accident scenes from the immediate vicinity.
The success of the project has been scientifically proven and the 400 or so pupils who took part in the event on June 5, 2024 in the Coesfeld Concert Theatre were clearly impressed: The actors' presentations do not miss their mark!
People of the same age who died in the arms of rescue workers at the scene of an accident. First impressions of accident scenes where vehicles were torn into several pieces and occupants were thrown out. The grief and bewilderment of parents who are woken up in the night to learn of the accidental death of their own child. The consternation was clearly written on the faces of everyone involved - it is rare for a group of so many young people to be so quiet.
